Recommendations:

Dismiss the Complaint and Order Suspending the Tariff Revisions in Docket 
UW-980229.

Approve the proposed tariff revision in Docket UW-980596 and grant the request 
for less than statutory notice treatment.

Discussion:

On February 18, 1998, Burton Water Company, Inc., (Burton Water) filed tariff 
revisions with the Commission. The tariff revisions would have reflected an 
increase in rates of approximately $15,000 (11.64%) per year.  Burton Water 
received its last rate increase effective April 1994. Burton Water is located 
in central Vashon Island and serves approximately 410 customers.  At the 
Commission's March 25, 1998, open meeting, the commission suspended the 
filing.  On April 24, 1998, the company requested permission to withdraw the 
filing.

On April 24, 1998, the company filed a tariff revision for approximately $4,668 
(3.97%) of additional revenue per year.  This filing is a tariff revision to 
change the company's rates to staff revised levels.  The company has requested 
that the filing in Docket UW-980596 be allowed to become effective by less than 
statutory notice (LSN) and with an effective date of May 1, 1998.

The Commission did not receive any customer comments in the original filing.

Staff recommends that the Commission (1) Dismiss the Complaint and Order 
Suspending the Tariff Revisions in Docket UW-980229 and (2) approve the 
proposed tariff revisions in Docket UW-980596 and grant the request for LSN 
treatment.
