BEFORE THE WASHINGTON UTILITES AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION In the matter of the Requested ) Extension of Central Office ) Docket UT – 001890 Code Activation Deadline for ) North American Numbering Plan ) ORDER GRANTING EXTENSION Filed by Worldcom, Inc. ) OF ACTIVATION DEADLINE ) FOR CENTRAL OFFICE CODE …………………………………………. ) BACKGROUND On November 27, 2000, WorldCom, Inc.(WorldCom) filed with the Commission a request for extension of the Central Office Code activation deadline, as assigned by the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA), administered by Neustar, Inc. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules dictate that Code Holders activate code within six months of assignment. They also grant State Commissions the authority to grant extensions, not to exceed six months, for reasonable cause, under FCC Regulations, CFR 52.15(i). WorldCom has filed an extension request, noting that capacity problems on both their and ILEC networks that they interconnect with, have caused delays in the implementation of two central office codes, 253-439 (Tacoma – originally due 8/28/00) and 253-733 (Des Moines – originally due 9/12/00). In WorldCom’ s request of November 27, 2000, they indicated that expected activation taget date was November 27. Staff recommends extending their deadline until the end of the year to eliminate additional requests. Since the deadline extension filed herein is fair, just, and reasonable, and not inconsistent with the public interest, it is deemed appropriate that the company be granted the extension it is requesting, with a new deadline of December 31, 2000. FINDINGS After careful examination of the deadline extension request filed herein by Worldcom, Inc. on November 27, 2000, and giving consideration to all relevant matters and for good cause shown, the Commission finds that the deadline should be extended until December 31, 2000. O R D E R THE COMMISSION THEREFORE ORDERS That the requested extension of Central Office Code activation deadline, for 253-439 and 253-733, filed herein by Worldcom, Inc. on November 27, 2000, is hereby granted, and said deadline shall be extended to December 31, 2000. DATED at Olympia, Washington, and effective this 13th day of December, 2000. WASHINGTON UTILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION CAROLE J. WASHBURN, Secretary
