BEFORE THE WASHINGTON UTILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION In the Matter of a Petition by SAN JUAN ISLAND SHUTTLE EXPRESS, INC., BC-120 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) DOCKET TS-991423 ORDER AUTHORIZING CARRIER TO DISCONTINUE SERVICE CALLED FOR UNDER ITS CERTIFICATE On September 15, 1999, San Juan Island Shuttle Express, Inc., BC-120, filed a petition with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission requesting permission to temporarily discontinue service called for under its certificate. Specifically, the carrier requested authority to discontinue passenger, freight and ferry service for a period from November 1, 1999, to May 22, 2000. In its request, the carrier stated that the temporary discontinuance is required due to weather conditions during the winter months and the dramatic drop in ridership which makes offering service non-compensatory and endangers the company's viability as a common carrier. In its petition to temporarily discontinue service the carrier stated that it has provided adequate and proper notice to its customers in compliance with the provisions of WAC 480-51-130. Pursuant to review of the petition and recommendations, the Commission finds that the carrier should be allowed to discontinue service from November 1, 1999, to May 22, 2000. O R D E R IT IS ORDERED That San Juan Island Shuttle Express, Inc., BC-120, shall be authorized to discontinue service called for under its certificate of public convenience and necessity. Said route to be discontinued effective November 1, 1999, with service to be resumed not later than May 22, 2000.
