Specifically, the carrier requested authority to discontinue passenger, freight and ferry service between Bellingham and Obstruction Pass and Friday Harbor, Washington for a period from November 2, 1998 to May 21, 1999. In its request, the carrier stated that the temporary discontinuance is required due to weather conditions during the winter months and the dramatic drop in ridership which make offering service non-compensatory, endangering the company's viability as a common carrier. Pursuant to review of the petition and recommendations, the Commission finds that the carrier should be allowed to discontinue service between Bellingham and Obstruction Pass and Friday Harbor, Washington from November 2, 1998 to May 21, 1999. O R D E R IT IS ORDERED That San Juan Island Shuttle Express, Inc., BC-120, shall be authorized, to discontinue service called for under its certificate of public convenience and necessity. Said route to be discontinued effective November 2, 1998, with service to be resumed not later than May 21, 1999. Carrier will be required to file a new time schedule at least 30 days prior to resuming service. DATED and signed at Olympia, Washington this 28th day of October, 1998.
