DOCKET UT-971508 Page 1 BEFORE THE WASHINGTON UTILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION In the Matter of the Requested ) Waiver of Statutory Notice in ) DOCKET UT-971508 Connection with the Tariff ) Revision to Tariff WN U-17 Filed ) ORDER GRANTING LESS by GTE Northwest Incorporated, ) THAN STATUTORY NOTICE ) On October 13, 1997, GTE Northwest Incorporated filed with the Commission a revision to its currently effective Tariff WN U-17, designated as: Section 4, 1st Revised Sheet 60 Section 4, 2nd Revised Sheet 61 Section 9, 1st Revised Sheet 7 Section 9, 1st Revised Sheet 10 The tariff sheets bear an inserted effective date of November 26, 1997. This date recognizes statutory notice as required. The company requests, however, that statutory notice be waived and that the revision become effective October 23, 1997. The tariff revision was filed to remove references to the $0.25 coin rate from the company's tariff, in accordance with the deregulation of local coin rates (Report and Order, FCC 96-388, dated September 20, 1996), and to remove two references to public and semi-public telephone service. The company is requesting less than statutory notice for this filing so that it can be effective as soon as possible after the October 7, 1997, effective date of the deregulation of coin phone rates by the FCC. Since the tariff revision filed herein is fair, just and reasonable, and waiver of statutory notice is not inconsistent with the public interest, it is deemed appropriate that the company be granted the waiver it is requesting with an effective date of October 23, 1997. FINDINGS After careful examination of the tariff revision filed herein by GTE Northwest Incorporated on October 13, 1997, and giving consideration to all relevant matters and for good cause shown, the Commission finds that the tariff revision should become effective on October 23, 1997. O R D E R THE COMMISSION THEREFORE ORDERS That the requested waiver of statutory notice in connection with the tariff revision filed herein by GTE Northwest Incorporated on October 13, 1997, is hereby granted, and said tariff revision shall become effective on October 23, 1997. DATED at Olympia, Washington, and effective this day of October, 1997. WASHINGTON UTILITIES AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION STEVE McLELLAN, Secretary
